A virtual exploration of creative possibilities in Denim with Generative AI
"In this human and AI collaboration, no physical garments are produced. The images are just possibilities—but when you look at them as designer, pattern cutter, or consumer, you can easily imagine the final product. Maybe some details are off, but those can be fixed IRL. Best of all, everyone sees the same garment, silhouette, colours, and textures in a highly realistic way. This allows a kind of shared consensus that would be hard to come by with early sketches or line drawings. If necessary, iterations are quick when it is just images. And freed from their draftsman duties, designers can stretch their imagination further and dedicate their skills and experience to the bigger picture, acting more as creative directors or curators while remaining fully in control on all the details.
The video project comprises six parts, each 60 sec long:
An outdoor exploration, with denim serving as a cohesive for upcycled gorpcore looks.
An artistic vision of creative wash, bleach, and tie-dye techniques.
An underground blend of destroyed denim, imaginatively repaired with lace and hints of late 1990s grunge.
The return of black with monochrome sophistication in oversized avant-garde denim tailoring.
"Moon '69," a simultaneous vision of both future and past.
Clothes as sanctuary, where oversized silhouettes will never go out of style, at any age…
This project is hoping to show some of the transformative power of generative AI in fashion design, and its creative possibilities especially in Denim. It may not be obvious, but exploring AI’s ever improving textures to develop new artisanal washes and treatments is both productive and fun. Denim is already a highly creative part of fashion. Think what it could do with an AI upgrade.
